Jaguar Mark V Saloon is the last Jaguar model with remains of old fashioned running-boards, and with a body shape from the 1930’ies. Some of the technical specifications are, however, modern with independent front suspension using torsion bars, and the robust frame was soon to be used for the new XK120 sports car and later for the big Mark VII, VIII and IX Saloons.
The Mark V body was the last Saloon to be built in its entirety at the Jaguar Factory and was a pre-war design, using many small steel pressings joined by welding and with the joints covered by skilfully applied lead-fillings. These were labour consuming methods, but the Mark V nevertheless created good profit, while the tools were created to manufacture the future modern Mark VII Saloon.
The Mark V was only in production for 3 years, but it was a sales success also in the small Danish market, despite the post war restrictions which f.inst. demanded that Danish customers could prove to the authorities that they had exported for an identical amount so a national import/export balance could be achieved.
