Auction description:
1948 Jaguar MkIV 2½ litre Three Position Drophead Coupe, in the present family ownership since 1966
Registration Number: DHJ 100
Chassis Number: 517052
Engine Number: P1481
First registered in Southend-on-Sea on September 14th 1948, DHJ 100 migrated to Haslemere, Surrey in 1957 by which time it was owned by Michael Robert Bavaria. Sold some five years later to local man Richard Barrett-Lennard, it passed into the current family ownership in 1966. Extensively refurbished between January 1992 and June 1993 (at a cost of over £35,000) by the Fullbridge Carriage Company, it received (among other things) a bodywork restoration, bare metal re-spray, full re-trim and thorough mechanical overhaul. Since then, it has been serviced by the renowned Maldon based marque specialist and had its rear hubs / wheels rebuilt etc. Finished in Old English White with claret leather upholstery, matching carpets and black mohair hood, DHJ 100 is described by the vendor as being in very good overall condition. Benefiting from a discrete electric choke and stainless steel exhaust system, it pleasingly retains such original underbonnet details as a Jaguar embossed fusebox and correct type twin SU carburettor filters. Performing well on a recent test drive, Jaguar claimed a power output of 102bhp @ 4,600rpm for its 2.663cc unit (complete with Harry Weslake revised cylinder head design). Fitted with a four-speed manual gearbox as standard, contemporary road testers managed to achieve 0-50mph in 10.6 seconds and an 87mph top speed, figures that underline the usability of this very rare MKIV 2½ litre DHC. Offered for sale with V5 registration document, buff logbook, restoration invoices (including sundry photos), current MOT and historic class (free) road tax.
Estimate: £30,000 - £35,000
Result: £28000
