Car to be at auction 11/14
www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2014-11-29/cars/jaguar-mk-iv-saloon.aspx

Auction description:
Registration CHJ 339
Chassis Number 412220
Engine Number KB3394
Odometer reading 43,559 miles
Estimate £18,000 - £22,000
The original distributer of this charming post-war Jaguar is detailed as Henlys Ltd of London although, since then, it has spent some time in a Belgian museum. Indeed, it was acquired from there by the vendor. We are told that every part of body is original although the brakes have been upgraded. It was sympathetically restored in 2010 with the trim sewn to the original design and the new interior roof-lining also as per the original. The original rims sport excellent chrome-work and the dash, complete with original auxiliary instruments is also beautifully original. Enclosed within the history file is a Jaguar/Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate dating from 2003 and the Belgian transport certificate. A most elegant reflection of bygone motoring.

Car returns to auction 9/16

Auction description:
The Salon Privé Sale 2016
1947 Jaguar 1.5 SE Saloon
Lot No.: 252
Registration: CHJ 339
Chassis Number: 412220
Engine Number: KB3394
Number of cylinders: 4
CC: 1776cc
Year of Manufacture: 1947
Estimate (£): 35,000 - 45,000

This delightful 1.5 is an SE (Special Equipment) supplied new through Henlys Ltd of London to a Mrs. Dorothy Pratt in Leigh-on-Sea on 24th March 1947. The SE was equipped as standard with Lucas P80 headlamps, FT58 Fog Lamps, bumpers with curved ends and a heater!! Her pride and joy resided in the Essex area for the majority of its life until the early 1970s when it was loaned to a museum in Belgium.

It remained on display in the museum until just three years ago when it was repatriated and shortly after purchased by our vendor. The car appears in remarkable condition having been sympathetically restored in 2010 with replacement trim sewn to the original design and a new interior roof lining also copied from the original.

It has since been a long term recommissioning project for our vendor who has undertaken a full engine rebuild which included new pistons, liners, valves, bearings and oil seals, and has only covered approximately 50 'running-in' miles since. Additional work undertaken at the time included a refurbishment of the brake system and a rebuild of the car's steering box.

Enclosed within the Jaguar's history file is a Jaguar/Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, invoices for work undertaken and past tax discs. Currently unregistered, having been on loan to the museum whilst the DVLA was updating registration documents to the current V5C system, this 1.5 is known to the Jaguar Owners Club and the DVLA and we are told with their assistance can hopefully be re-registered with its original registration.

This fabulous post-war Jaguar saloon ticks all the boxes. It's superbly presented and should be mechanically reliable, but when you take it out for a spin, that timeless, inexplicably addictive cocktail of creaks and groans and whiffs of oil and varnish and leather and hot metal are all there. Magic. A lovely example with a wonderful charm, a rare opportunity to own a car from the formative years of Jaguar Cars.

Seller's description:

Configuration: RHD

Price: £50,000

This stunning Jaguar 1.5 SE is in fabulous condition. The fastidious vendor has lavished time and investment into CHJ 339 resulting in what can only be described as one of the best examples we have seen. In 2016 the engine was rebuilt, and the valve seats replaced so running on unleaded fuel is not a problem. The steering box was overhauled at the same time and the braking system was completely rebuilt. The car has completed circa 100 miles since this work was concluded, having been in the hands of a private collector for a number of years. Supplied new by Henlys of London to Mrs Dorothy Pratt of Leigh-on-sea on 24th March 1947, this Jaguar was loaned to a museum in Belgium in the early 70’s until 2013. These super stylish cars of the period, with the large Lucas P80 headlamps and curvaceous design are a most elegant reflection of bygone motoring. Supplied with a V5C registration document, the original toolkit and a host of paperwork including a Jaguar Heritage Certificate. This is a great opportunity for a collector or enthusiast to enjoy and experience the pleasure of the 1940s era.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
