220bhp, 3,781cc double overhead camshaft inline six-cylinder engine, four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, four-wheel independent suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes. Wheelbase: 187.75in. (4,769mm).
The Jaguar Mk II series of 2.4, 3.4, 3.8, 240, and 340 models were built from 1959 to early 1969 with a total of 91,216 cars produced. These handsome cars set new standards of style, comfort, and, above all, performance as they offered discerning buyers a luxurious, wood-trimmed alternative to a more conventional family car in a sportier package.
For 1960, the 3.4 was officially renamed the Mk II and was offered with a 3,781cc engine – the same powerplant as the standard XK150 and the largest one the Mk II would ever carry. A tachometer, limited-slip differential, four-wheel disc brakes, and four-speed transmission with overdrive were all standard while the automatic transmission remained optional.
In road trim, the 200-horsepower Mk II 3.8 was capable of 125-mph top speeds and 0–60 times of just 8.5 seconds. The new cars were equally impressive at long-distance racing and in 1961 broke four world records in the 3–5 litre class, averaging 106.58 mph over 10,000 miles. The Mk II would go on to compete at such legendary tracks as Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Goodwood Easter, and even the Tour de France, which it dominated from 1960 to 1963.
The Mk II offered here was delivered to Jaguar dealer PJ Evans in Birmingham, England on the 17th January 1966 finished in opalescent silver grey with red leather interior and was sold to its first owner, The Walford Manufacturing Co. Ltd. Imported to Italy in 1966 from Great Britain where it was purchased by the Prevosti collection in 1992.
Now finished in Old English White, the car appears to have been repainted at some point in its history. The car is fitted with proper Jaguar wire wheels and the chrome and brightwork remain in good overall condition. The interior has been reupholstered in attractive Tobacco leather, which remains in excellent condition and is complemented by a wooden dash and wood trim on the doors, which could, however, benefit from restoration. The interior carpeting is generally also of good quality. Meanwhile, the engine bay appears to be entirely original and unrestored. Its condition is consistent with a car of this mileage and continued road use.
Fitted with the popular, race-proven 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine, this particular Mk II is among the fastest of its kind and continues to offer sport saloon performance and luxury at a very reasonable price point.
