Lot number 63
Sale Price £32,500
Make & Model Jaguar Mk2 3.8
Registration LCL 537A
Year 1963
Colour British Racing Green
Engine Size 3,781 cc
Chassis No. P232530BL
Engine No. 107787-8
Documents V5C; MOT April 2019
The lovely example offered here was first registered on the 9th September 1963 and is being offered by its third owner. It has covered a mere 63,000 miles. With a history file with old MOTs from 1981 when the odometer read 55,693 and from 1991 at 58,430 miles the mileage sounds about right.
The subject of a restoration by Custom Bodyshop in West Ham in 2012 it appears to be in superb condition with excellent shut lines and paint finish. The sills were replaced and the doors properly restored, an area which is notoriously difficult to get right, and very obvious when its wrong!
According to the vendor work carried out includes new brake discs, pads, callipers and pipes. A new fuel tank and lines, a carburettor rebuild, upgraded cooling system with a re-cored radiator and electric fan. The bumpers and various other chrome parts were sent for re-chroming. A new heater matrix and hoses, plus a new steering box complete the work. At the time of our visit the Vendor did not have invoices to substantiate this work, but you can see form the condition of the car that plenty of money has been spent!
Sporting the most desirable colour combination of British Racing Green, with an immaculate parchment hide interior this has to be the Mk2 to have if you want a car that drives beautifully, with its unusually slick Moss gearbox with functioning Overdrive. At the estimate it is likely that it will prove to be great investment too!

Bespoke, 1963 Mk2 in Opalescent British Racing Green with sympathetic upgrades including the powerful 4.2-litre XK unit and a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive.
It's finished in Opalescent British Racing Green with parchment leather interior, a colour combination that only gets better with time
The comprehensive 2014 restoration addressed various aspects including bodywork, mechanical enhancements, replacement of components such as brake discs, pads, fuel tank, fuel pipes, carburettor, cooling system, and more, resulting in a visually stunning and very capable Mk2
The original 3.8-litre engine was replaced with a more powerful 4.2-litre XK unit and a 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, though aficionados note the near identicality of the saloon bodies despite the chassis change
Continual maintenance and improvements included gearbox and overdrive overhauls, clutch replacement, modifications for easier gearbox removal, engine and electrical upgrades by renowned specialists, showcasing a harmonious balance between performance and classic elegance
Whilst this Mk2 may not bear 'matching numbers', it more than compensates for that with its exceptional upgrades, understated looks and handsome presentation

This exquisite British Racing Green example has undergone a significant and ongoing programme of mechanical restoration and enhancement, with a particular focus on improving performance, usability and reliability. The car was previously fitted with a 4.2-litre engine but following a mechanical failure, the decision was taken to return the car to its original specification according to its Jaguar Heritage Certificate. A correct 3.8-litre engine (LE2538-8) has since been sourced, fully rebuilt and installed by Classic Motor Cars Bridgnorth, restoring the car to its appropriate period configuration. The engine has covered only approximately 98 running-in miles since completion and remains at the running-in stage.
The restoration work carried out across recent years has been extensive, with over £40,000 invested since 2023 alone. This work is fully documented across two comprehensive history files containing invoices and photographic records, detailing the full scope of mechanical refurbishment and upgrades. Key works include a rebuilt rear axle with new 3.54 differential, upgraded propshaft, new clutch and release components, reconditioned 5-speed manual gearbox from a Toyota Supra supplied by Realm Engineering, and a fully renewed braking system including new callipers, handbrake assembly and associated hydraulic components.
Suspension and chassis components have also been comprehensively addressed, with new front shocks, bushes, rear shocks, rear track control arms and panhard rod all fitted. A new header tank, washer system and battery have been installed, along with an electric radiator fan with discreet cabin mounted switch. In addition, EZ electric power steering has been fitted to improve usability without compromising the car’s original character.
Further enhancements include a rebuilt instrument cluster with a reconditioned speedometer, rev counter and new oil pressure gauge, a new wood-rim steering wheel and boss, and detailed attention to smaller mechanical and trim related items including seals, electrics and cooling system upgrades. All major mechanical and restoration work has been carried out by respected specialists, predominantly Classic Motor Cars Bridgnorth and Rushton Engineering, both well respected marque specialists.
Finished to an extremely high standard throughout, the bodywork, interior and brightwork present very well, reflecting the level of investment and attention to detail applied during its recent restoration. The car has a current MOT with no advisories, further supporting its current roadworthy condition.
