This example originally arrived on December 23, 1964 with overdrive as ordered by Professor F.H. Crossley of Atlanta, Georgia. The gross purchase price came to $4,511.10, as the original pro-forma documents. This is accompanied by a very nice selection of original paperwork, including the original Lloyd’s certificate of insurance for its sea voyage to the U.S. The file on this Mk II contains many receipts and registrations from Professor Crossley over the decades of his ownership. As the years progressed he moved to Connecticut, and brought his trusty Jaguar with him. He continued to drive it, with receipts documenting its services and work preferred. It wasn’t until 1988 that Professor Crossley decided it was time to make a difficult decision, and listed the Mk II with a local dealer.
Upon a tip from the next owners brother, this Mk II found its next faithful collector owner of 33 years. Two years after purchasing the car, it was stripped to bare metal. The bumpers and all bright work were removed, and the car was re-sprayed it’s original gold sand color. With fresh chrome, this Mk II absolutely gleamed, and was taken back to show Professor Crossley. Photographs show the delighted Professor standing next to freshly restored Jaguar under still relatively new collector ownership.
Over the next 30 years this car was regularly driven, maintained and enjoyed. The original interior is showing its age in places, but is still serviceable with wonderful patina. Small improvement such as a new headliner would quickly bring up cabin up to snuff. The underside of this Mk II is very clean, with many photographs available. Most recently, a great deal of mechanical work was done, totaling nearly $5,0000 USD. This is a very strong driver, which preforms beautifully on the road. A wonderful two owner example with a great deal of potential to be taken to the next level!
