    Auction description:
    1968 Jaguar Mk2 3.4-Litre Saloon
Collectors' Motor Cars and Motorcycles, Bonhams (3rd December 2007)
    1968 Jaguar Mk2 3.4-Litre Saloon
A desirable manual/overdrive equipped example, this 3.4-litre Mk2 has recorded circa 127,000 miles from new, some 36,000 of them over the course of the past 25 years as evidenced by accompanying expired MoTs dating from 1982 to the present. We are advised that the body was stripped and repainted in 1999 by Romford Body Shop at a cost of 6,000 and that the car comes with a full file of bills for general maintenance carried out by Thoroughbred Car Services of Leigh-on-Sea. Finished in Old English White with cream interior, EUR 810G is offered with current MoT and Swansea V5 registration document.

    MOT ExpiryDate: May 2012

The right-hand drive 340 on offer left the factory in 1968 and sports Old English White coachwork paired with a Biscuit coloured interior. It is equipped with a manual gearbox plus optional overdrive. The vendor purchased 'EUR 810G' from a Bonhams sale but has apparently only covered some 1,200 miles in it during the last two years. The Jaguar is now being sold complete with a new stainless steel exhaust system and fresh MOT certificate. The vendor currently regards the bodywork, paintwork, trim, engine and gearbox as being in "good" order.

Car to return to auction 11/11 Sold at above auction for £8,580

    Auction description:
    Lot No: 335
    1968 Jaguar 340 Sports Saloon
    Registration no. EUR 810G
    Chassis no. 1J52089DN
    Engine no. 7J52670-8
    Estimate: £10,000 - 12,000, € 11,000 - 14,000

Restored at date unknown, this overdrive-equipped Jaguar 340 saloon has been up-rated with Coopercraft brakes, wire wheels, leather upholstery, wood-rim steering wheel and a stainless steel exhaust system. We are advised that the car recently completed a 600-mile round trip to the South Coast and that it will be driven to the sale. Finished in Old English White with beige interior, this most attractive and well-specified Jaguar 340 is offered with current road fund licence, MoT to May 2012 and Swansea V5 registration document.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
