Located in Coventry, West Midlands CV4

Our vendor, Bill, bought MHP 776F after it had been off the road and stored in a garage for decades. It had lost its registration, but the saving grace was the single scrap of paperwork sold with the car which was an old MOT test certificate with the reg number on it in the glovebox. With the help of one of the Jaguar clubs, Bill was able to prove the car's provenance and once re-registered with the DVLA on 10th October 2012, it was able to wear its original 1967 F registration plate. Bill used to run a wedding car company, and the Jaguar Mk2 was part of the fleet, being an original white car.

We conducted an HPI check on this vehicle and noticed a marker indicating it was "previously registered overseas." However, our vendor has known the vehicle since it was only a couple of years old and remains in contact with the previous owner, who had the vehicle for about 30 years while it was off the road. Based on this long-standing relationship, the vendor can confidently state that the overseas registration marker is incorrect. We believe that when the vehicle was re-registered in 2012, the DVLA may have mistakenly assumed it was imported, which likely led to this error. This theory is supported by the fact that the car was re-registered with its original plate, MHP 776F.

The Jaguar 3.4 was taken off road c1974 due to failing it’s MOT on brakes, exhaust and rear shock absorbers. Some work was completed before it was then abandoned. Our vendor came to the Jaguar’s rescue in 2003.

Engine was completely seized and all brakes missing

Engine removed and sent to Jaguar specialist Ernie Dugmore for overhaul

Replacement brakes sourced from donor car and sent off for reconditioning

Radiator re-cored

Replaced front springs shocks all round

All parts required for replacement ordered

New hubs and wire wheels - receipt available

Due to house move all work stopped until 2011

Work completed - original number applied for

Back on the road in 2012 with full MOT and has had one ever since

Exterior

Unrestored, highly original example

Finished in white, wearing its original cellulose paint

Original chrome work looks mainly good with some age-related pitting

New wire wheels acquired

Stainless Steel exhaust

Being the original paintwork, there are of course areas that would benefit from some attention, these have been highlighted so please see the image gallery. In saying that, these cars are only original once and their aging blemishes can be endearing.

Our vendor advises that the Jaguar has only had welding done to the rear jacking points, and that the rear suspension pick up points are good.

Interior

Original red leather interior is in super condition

Acres of walnut

Wood veneer trim refreshed by a cabinet maker

Red carpets and over mats

Good headlining

Spare wheel

Original tool kit

Mechanicals

The engine was seized when our vendor acquired the Jaguar, so he had it fully rebuilt

3.4 litre inline six-cylinder engine

Twin SU carbs delivering 210bhp

4 speed manual

Working overdrive

New clocks installed; mileage reads c6,000 but is likely to be approximately 88,000

In a world full of over restored classics, it’s so nice to see one that remains mostly original. Keep it in this condition and use or take it back to showroom quality, the choice is yours - and what a wonderful choice to have!

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
