V5C Registration document

47,400 miles from new which is believed to be original

MOT until 6th June 2023 with no advisories. The car also comes with numerous expired MOT certificates.

The cars comes with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate which confirms it was built on 19th January 1968. It was sold by Saunders Abbot in Beckenham in Kent and originally carried the registration “TYN 597F”.

This Mk2 is believed to have been exported to the Channel Islands in its early history and was then brought back to the mainland in 1986. This would explain the registration change.

The seller states that the previous owner was allegedly an employee of Jaguar and worked on the production line at Browns Lane.

The car also comes with a 3.4 and 2.4 Mark 2 Handbooks, a selection of other marque specific handbooks and 2 sets of keys.

THE INTERIOR

This Mk2 was ordered with Dark Blue Ambla leather trim which is the colour scheme found in the car today. The seats and door cards are in good condition with minor signs of wear. And as you would expect for a classic of this era, the interior smells as good as it looks.

The models signature wood veneer dashboard and dash top are in nice shape with only a few minor marks present here and there.

The Webasto sunroof works smoothly and the wool head liner is in good clean condition

THE EXTERIOR

Repainted in its original Warwick Grey colour scheme in 2021

Original factory fitted Webasto sunroof

Chrome wire wheels with knock offs which are in good condition. It also comes with a chrome wire spare wheel. Included with the car is a complete original toolkit, wheel jack and a number of other tools.

Late model Mk2 with slim chrome bumpers and retains its original type rear wheel spats.

A badge bar is fitted to the front bumper and comes with both AA and RAC badges.

The cars chrome work presents well with some minor marks present.

Overall this 340 presents well with a few blemishes here and there. There is a dent in the rear valance and signs of rust in the front sills below the wheel arch, which is shown in the photos. The right rear wheel spat needs adjusting at the bottom. However these details do not detract from the rest of the car and can be addressed over time.

THE MECHANICS

3.4 litre straight six with 4 speed manual gearbox. The car was ordered without overdrive which makes this example a rare specification.

The engine was overhauled in November 2020 and was treated to new seals and gaskets, a new timing chain, clutch assembly and new gearbox and mounting assembly. The front subframe mounts were also renewed as was the lower ball joint on the front suspension.

Further mechanical checks and improvements were carried out in June 2022 which came to £2,221.75. This included an engine service with new spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor arm fitted. Other works included stripping down the rear axle, rear hubs and half shafts, which were then clean and repaired where necessary.

The Jaguar’s history file also includes details for head work, which involved repairs to the cylinder head, the fitting of new exhaust valves and new head studs.

There are numerous other invoices for maintenance over the years which show that this Mk2 has been well cared for by previous owners.

Car to return to auction 2/23

www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2023-25-02/cars/ref-12-1968-jaguar-340-dl/

Auction description:

Lot Number 197

Registration WGU 117F

Chassis Number 1J51103

Engine Number 7J51216-8

Odometer reading 47,409 miles

Estimate £16,000 - £19,000

This manual example is beautifully presented in Warwick Grey with Dark Blue Ambla interior, set off superbly by the chrome wire wheels. The odometer reads an astonishingly low mileage of 47,409 miles which appears to be correct given the large folder of old MoT test certificates and invoices for work accompanying the car, also present is the official, stamped Jaguar Heritage Certificate. From new, this Jaguar was fitted with the desirable full length Webasto sunroof and as well as a spare wire wheel it comes with the original and complete toolkit along with an original handbook. This stunning classic has undergone continuous restorative work including the replacement of all engine seals and gaskets with the engine removed and a new timing chain fitted, new gearbox and mounting assembly, new clutch assembly, replacement sub frame front mountings, all in November 2020. This car also had a complete paint refresh in 2021, and most recently underwent further work on the rear differential and a complete service. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document and although exempt by age an MoT test certificate valid until June 2023. Originally manufactured in 1968 and, we believe, registered in the Channel Islands before being brought to the UK in 1986, this magnificent Jaguar has been enjoyed buy its present owner who has decided to offer it for sale to simply reduce his portfolio of classic cars. Given the way the car drives and looks it's hard to believe that this classic Jaguar is 54 years old.
