I owned this car in the mid 1980s. I bought it from the original owner for £100 after it was involved in an accident on Kingston Bridge when a brake pipe failed, I cut off all the front panels except the inner wings, which were fine. I did pinch a couple of bits of chrome off it for my 240. I sold it about a year later to AWB Motors in Southall,(Albert Bett's old firm) as a project, for £125.A profit! At this stage it needed both front wings, crossmember and bumper, but was a low mileage car with minimal other issues and a great history, I still have some documentation for the car. If the car is still out there, I would be happy to forward them to the current owner.

Dear Robbie, I have no idea whether or not this message will ever reach you, but here goes. I believe I may be able to help you find out where your car (Jaguar) is. We (my wife Jill and I) 'hired' the car for our wedding day, back in early 2009. It cost us more to hire your old car for just one day than it did for you to buy the car in the first place! The company we hired it from are still in business, Gold Chauffeur Services, 287 Southill Road, Cardington, Bedford, MK44 3SX - our contacts were: Stuart Twitchen, M. J. Freeth - www.golddrive.com - 01234 831 731 - I believe the car lives in London somewhere? Not sure now though as much time has passed. We have some great photos of the car from our happy day, do get in touch with me, and I'll email them to you. Good luck! Best regards, Steve Phypers 07854 680991

Awww Steve and Robbie, love this story! I would love to track down my parents old Commer campervan, and my very first car, a 1967 VW Beetle. Sadly I know for a fact the beetle was cut up for scrap, I gave it to a friend on condition he restored it... but he chopped it. Still breaks my heart to think about it. I wonder if this site is just for Jaguars?! Hmm gonna have a little search now. I admit I only came across this while looking for wedding car hire company back links haha. When my Beetle started to rot, back in the late 90s, my replacement was a 1965 VW camper. Utter rot box too, I was a 19 year old girl, what did I know! But I eventually ploughed every penny I had into it (took a long time), and it's finally pretty, and also a wedding car. Proper Triggers Broom, but aren't all original UK cars! I'll pop my link here anyway, if anyone wants to see what the rot box became. Shame I can't paste a photo of what it was like back in '97 (lime green and filler) www.thewhitevanwedding.com
