From 1966 Jaguar offered the 420 as a link between S-Type and Mark X. The new model combined the compactness of the S-Type with the large 4.2-liter machine of the Mark X, for which the stem of the S-Type was extended. The 420 was optionally available with an automatic, 4-speed or 4-speed gearbox with overdrive. Options such as power steering or air conditioning were very nice back then. The standard heavy leather for the seat covers and the polished wood were only reserved for very few luxury cars.

This Jaguar 420 was originally delivered to France and, in keeping with its sporty habitus, was ordered with an overdrive gearbox. In 2014 the consignor acquired the Jaguar in Holland, imported it to Austria and registered it here. The previous owner had already extensively overhauled the Jaguar, including a repaint in the original color, but had left the solidly preserved interior in its original condition. Regular service work kept the technology fit and breakdowns away. The 420 got a stainless steel exhaust and most recently a new clutch in 2020. The leather had already been professionally treated in 2019 so that it remains supple and soft with a visible patina. In accordance with its providence, the Jaguar mainly ran on the route, which, to the delight of the owner, it did again and again with flying colors.
