Lot #138747

This 1966 Jaguar MK X is finished in black over beige leather upholstery and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, triple SU carburetors, power steering, air conditioning, folding rear tables, and an aftermarket tape deck. The seller acquired the car in 2023 from the long-term previous owner and subsequent service included rebuilding the carburetors, changing the oil, repairing the radiator overflow tank, and replacing the radiator cap. This MK X is now offered with a tool kit, car show awards, service manuals, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The Mark Ten was introduced in 1961 and—unlike its body-on-frame predecessor—featured unibody construction. This example is finished in black. The left rear door does not open from the outside, and there is rust in the trunk floor.

The 14″ steel wheels wear chrome covers and are mounted in Michelin Defender tires from 2015. The Mk X was the first Jaguar saloon with independent rear suspension and it was also equipped with four-wheel disc brakes. An XJ6-style brake booster was retrofitted in 2006, at which time the master cylinder was replaced. Service in 2018 included replacing the front lower control arm bushings, the drag link pin bushings and one pin, the tie rod boots, and the brake switch. There is a power steering fluid leak and the seller notes play in the steering.

The cabin is equipped with beige leather seats, air conditioning, power windows, rear picnic tables, and a Rampage cassette deck. The door panels and headliner have been reupholstered in mohair, and service in 2023 included adding rear seatbelts, converting the A/C to R-134a refrigerant, and installing a choke switch below the dashboard. The wood trim was refinished though it is now cracking.

The five-digit odometer has rolled over and shows 965 miles. The seller has added approximately 7k miles. The speedometer angle drive was replaced in 2011 and again in 2015. The speedometer does not work properly.

The 4.2-liter inline six-cylinder was reportedly rebuilt in 2006. The left fuel pump was replaced in 2014, a modern alternator was installed in 2016, the battery isolation switch was repaired in 2017, the rear engine mount was replaced in 2018, and the seller notes that service in 2023 included rebuilding the carburetors, changing the oil, repairing the radiator overflow tank, and replacing the radiator cap.

The three-speed automatic transmission was reportedly rebuilt in 2006. The rear exhaust mounts were replaced in 2016, and the seller notes that the transmission slips between second and third if the car is driven aggressively.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
