Ebay item 3/16/07
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-Mark-II-Sport-Sedan-3-8-4-Speed-w-OD-Wire-Wheel-S ...
Car has a buy it now price of $48,000, no offers.

Sellers description:
An Absolute Drop Dead Gorgeous Mark II RESTORED at considerable expense.
These 3.8 Sport Sedans are hard to find in this configuration in good shape at a reasonable price. This car had a 3.4 engine and it was upgraded to the current 3.8 years ago. This was routine during the period as many owners did upgrade to the more powerful engine. If you know anything about the Mark II please know that they are expensive to restore. My efforts will benefit the next lucky owner as I have put considerable time and resources into this car. I am a serious Jaguar enthusiast with several restored XK series cars from the 1950's and have won many concours events with XK series cars. I simply do not have room nor the time for all these cars. I will be selling my XK150 3.4 with 4-speed as well however it is considerably more.

This example having just over 2800 miles from major refurbish has had the following work performed over several years:

* Rebuilt engine with 50lbs at speed and NO LEAKS
* New Clutch
* New Shocks
* New Wiring Harness
* Instruments Cleaned and Calibrated
* New Body Rubber
* Recent Paint
* Recent Avon Tires
* Wood Refinished
* New Bartlett Leather
* New Carpets
* New Headliner
* Optional Factory Recliner Seats
* Optional Fog Lights
* Correct Toll Kit
* Everything Works!

Chassis 177407DN and 3.8 Engine LA2945-8

I am located in N. California near Walnut Creek.

The car needs very little to be a true concours contender. I will point out what I think should be done however at this point it is a matter of personal taste and what plans you may have for the car in the future. The NADA Guide has a range of $38-68,000 for this car. I think someone will be very happy with the price I have set for this car.

Additional description from above auction:
The owner states that this particular vehicle underwent a "full ground-up restoration". It started out its life with the 3.4-liter engine, but it was later upgraded to the 3.8-liter dual overhead cam six-cylinder engine for some added performance. The previous owner rebuilt the engine and the wiring harness was completely replaced. It also has amenities of dual sideview mirrors, wood-rimmed steering wheel, toolkit, driving lights, front bucket seats, center console and the classic Jaguar hood mascot. A new clutch has been installed in its four-speed manual with overdrive transmission and the car is said to be "a blast to drive." This Jaguar is an automobile that shows class.

Sellers description:
West Coast Classics are proud to present a cherished example of this restored and simply stunning 1961 Jaguar Mark II 3.8L Sports Sedan with just under 4K miles on the rebuild and full ground up restoration! The car originally had a 3.4L engine which was upgraded to the current and more powerful 3.8L twin cam straight six engine some years ago. As any enthusiast will confirm, restoring any Mark II is an expensive proposition due to the complexity of the car's structure and the skill required to lead joints and smooth imperfections and this restoration was second to none. The car also boasts a correct original 4 speed manual Moss Box unit transmission with overdrive as opposed to the standard 5 speed conversions installed and plentiful in many of these restored cars. Many hours were obviously invested in this particular car's restoration by a renown restorer with parts receipts and records available and the car would have to be considered still in close to concours condition with only some 4K miles on the build and with work completed including:

Rebuilt 3.8L engine with 50lbs at speed & no leaks
New clutch
New shocks
New wiring harness
Instruments cleaned & calibrated
New body rubber
New 'Carmen Red' paint
New Avon tires
Wood refinished
New 'Bartlett' leather
New carpets
New headliner
Optional factory recliner seats
Optional fog lights
Correct original tool kit in spare wire wheel
Chrome wire wheels
Wood steering wheel
Center console
Dual side view mirrors

With most of these cars having been neglected over the years or rusted beyond repair to find an example like this one is most certainly a rare find. The Mark II was the most refined of all Jaguar sedans, and indeed any other of its contemporary's of its day and was Jaguars first over-engineered monocoque bodies with slimmer pillars and a ton of chrome giving it a much lighter appearance.

As confirmed by the car's 'Jaguar Heritage Certificate' this particular model was originally delivered in August 1961 to a Mr G.M Heseldin of the Netherlands and fitted with rare factory options including a 4 speed manual transmission with Overdrive, fog lights, radio and wire wheels and the car still has its original spare wheel and jack and tools located in their original compartments in the trunk. The interior of the original Mark II's boasted bucket seats in front with traditional English fold-down tea trays in their rears. The fascia was neatly arranged with instrumentation right in front of the driver with a row of secondary gauges and toggle switches lined up impressively in the leather grained center of the dash and the automatic gear selector was installed on the column. The Mark II was discontinued in September 1967

We recently purchased the car with all the original restoration documentation and the car has always obviously always been garaged and covered since having been restored, and so rare for these cars there is absolutely no signs of any history of any rust and no signs of any accidents. It has been restored in this most striking of colors with the beautifully restored supple tan 'Bartlett' leather and burled walnut interior still showing as new - not a completely concourse example, as it now has some 4K miles since having been restored, but close and boasting true pride of ownership!

The car drives as new, superb in every sense and extremely rare for one of these cars with the Moss manual gearbox correctly selecting all the gears, including reverse, which as any enthusiast will confirm is a lottery in most unrestored or original Moss transmissions, which generally need a sympathetic and experienced hand to avoid wrong slotting! There is no noise from the rear axle or rear end and there are obviously no signs of any smoke and no noticeable oil leaks. During the ground up restoration, all the original chrome was re-chromed, a very expensive proposition for anyone considering doing so with the Mazak castings on many items being near impossible to re-chrome properly.

This is therefore obviously an extremely rare opportunity to own a beautifully and correctly restored example with only some 4K miles since being restored of a 1961 Jaguar 3.8L Mark II with the highly desirable and satisfyingly correct original Moss box 4 speed manual transmission with O/D (with the left up and forward for reverse position) and chrome wire wheels on correct Avon tires - a perfect addition to any British car collection or an obvious choice for the Jaguar enthusiast!

Such elegance, luxury, power and pace - the Mark II is more than just the greatest Jaguar sedan ever built, its probably the greatest British sports sedan ever built!

Chassis # 177407DN. Engine: DOHC 3.8L/220 bhp Inline 6 # LA2945-8 (Originally a 3.4L #KH1041-9). Transmission: 4 speed with Overdrive #GBN52070JS. Body # E049048.
