To be auctioned on Monday, September 9, 2013

£25,000 - £32,000

Chassis no. 160575 DN

The 1962 Jaguar 3.4 Mk II Saloon presented here was manufactured on 12 July 1962 and sold through JR Inwand's dealership, in Ruinship, Middlesex, UK. On 7 August 1962, it was sold to Ain Vice Marchal GP Chamberlain, of Stanmore, Middlesex, UK. Originally finished in opalescent Silver Blue with a dark blue interior, this right-hand drive example shows 87,403 miles and wears a colour combination of red finish with a tan leather interior, which is a combination that suits the car well. Equipped as such, the 3.4-litre version was derived from Jaguar's spectacular XK120 and produced 210 brake horsepower at 5,500 rpm. The car had a top speed of 120 mph and would go from 0-50 mph in 9 seconds.

Sold for £29,120.

An excellent first-time collector car

Desirable manual-transmission example

Completed by Jaguar on July 12, 1962 and sold new through JR Inwand’s dealership in Ruislip, Middlesex, it was originally finished in Opalescent Silver Blue with a dark blue interior and built to right hand drive specifications. Its first owner was Air Vice Marshal GP Chamberlin of Stanmore. Fitted with the 3.4-litre inline six-cylinder engine, this engine was derived from Jaguar’s iconic XK 120 and produced 210 bhp at 5,500 rpm. Performance was more than adequate for its day and the car could hit 60 mph from a standstill in 11.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 120 mph.

Purchased by the consignor in 2013, the car is presently finished in red over tan leather, which suits its sporting character. Fitted with a four-speed manual transmission, this would surely provide lots of fun for an enthusiast looking for a classic to enjoy on extended trips with a family of four.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
