This Jaguar Mk II was purchased by the seller’s father in the 1960s from its reported original owner, and the car has remained in the family ever since. The vehicle was refinished in white decades ago, and the red leather interior received reupholstered front seats in 2019. The seller’s father installed a 3.8-liter straight-six in place of the original 2.5-liter engine, and the car retains a factory four-speed manual gearbox. The seller took possession of the vehicle more than 20 years ago and has since refreshed it with a replacement clutch, throwout bearing, braking components, spark plugs and wires, distributor points, water pump, exhaust, and more. This Mark 2 is now offered with black California license plates, service records from the past 25 years, the factory 2.5-liter engine block, spare parts, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The body was reportedly repainted in white more than 40 years ago, and the seller notes that the finish exhibits dings and wear, including a scratch on the passenger-side rear wheel arch. The door jambs, trunk, and engine bay still show the factory black finish. Additional bumperettes are included in the sale.
Color-matched 15″ steel wheels with chrome hubcaps are wrapped in 185-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The seller notes that the brake system was refurbished by XKs Unlimited of San Luis Obispo, California, which included replacement of the calipers, discs, master and slave cylinders, pads, vacuum servo, and hoses. The front springs and front bushings were also replaced.
The front seats were reupholstered in red leather with replacement foam backing by XKs Unlimited in 2019. The seller notes that a tear in the headliner has been sewn closed, the interior lights do not illuminate when the doors are opened, and the clock on the tachometer is inoperable. The manual crank for the radio antenna is inoperable, but the factory AM radio is said to be functional.
The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a burl wood dashboard with Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and center-mounted auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer displays just over 15k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added by the seller over the past 20 years.
The seller’s father replaced the factory 2,483cc inline-six with an XK 3,781cc inline-six with dual SU carburetors. Power is sent to the rear wheels via the factory Moss four-speed manual transmission with a re-geared 3.54:1 rear end. Work performed by XKs Unlimited circa 2010 included the following:
Bead-blast cleaned engine, cylinder head, transmission, and rear differential
Resurfaced cylinder head
Replaced head studs
Replaced overhead-cam chain
Adjusted valves
Installed valve-guide hold-down clamps
Replaced spark plugs, wires, distributor points, cap, rotor, and ignition coil
Rodded out radiator
Replaced water pump
Replaced clutch and throwout bearing
Corrected flywheel
Rewired fog lights, electronic choke, and horn
Rebuilt speedometer, replaced speedometer cable
Replaced stainless-steel exhaust
Cleaned fuel tank
Replaced fuel pump
Service invoices are provided. The seller states that the removed factory “2.4” engine block and spare parts are included in the sale, as are the factory Cooper air filter, radiator fan shroud, and an uninstalled PerTronix electronic ignition. Work performed in 2020 included flushing the coolant and the clutch fluid as well as changing the engine oil and filter.
