This Jag has been kept and maintained, since 2013, routinely with regular services and MOTs. As a result, the owner reports the car to drive excellently, especially with its optional overdrive, as well as being in good condition all round. The decision was made to keep the original interior instead of scrapping it and fitting something new and as such the very well kept 58-year-old leather is looking in good condition, if a little dry around the edges.
With the Mk2’s red on red colour combo, overdrive, and roof long sunroof, this would be an excellent choice with which to have your first experience with one or re-visit a trip down memory lane.
On the Outside
The bodywork for the Jag looks to be in good condition, with very little corrosion, dents or scratches to speak of.
There is the tiniest amount of blistering at the front just above the grille and some chips around the bonnet shuts etc as well as the chrome work looking to have a small amount of pitting. Other than these minor issues however the Jag looks to be nice and straight.
The car sits on body painted steel wheels with chrome hubcaps which suit it well, they’re also in good condition with good condition tyres.
On the Inside
The seller reports the interior to be original and the red-on-red colour combo compliments the car well. There are some dry sections on the seat bases and a minor crack in the leather here and there but nothing which has clearly degraded to the point of no return. We can only assume that the upholstery might come up well with some elbow grease and the proper products and overall, it’s in good condition and ready to be used.
The wooden trim however, from what we can see, is in great condition with little lacquer peel or slitting of the wood. It’s straight out of the 60’s and retains its period charm.
The carpets, headlining and doorcards all look to present well with no obvious staining or sagging. The door shuts are the same and have their chrome kickplates in place.
Opening the boot reveals a huge cargo space with good condition metal work and relatively stain free bright red carpet, which when lifted shows the good condition boot floor. There are a few paint chips here but nothing that a little touch up couldn’t sort. Under the spare wheel well cover you’ll find a spare wheel (of course) and what looks to be a complete period tool kit, also in good condition.
Underneath
This car has had the benefit of more regular use than many of these cars would usually see, it has been maintained well and regularly MOT’d as mentioned and the huge stack of paperwork supports its being taken care of.
Going underside of the Jag and everything looks to be in good condition from what we can see, there is the odd spot of what looks to be superficial surface rust but nothing you wouldn’t expect to see on a 10-year-old car let alone a 58-year-old one.
We would encourage you to look through the photo gallery of the car below after its complimentary detail whilst staying with us here at The Market.
Mechanically the seller reports the car to be in excellent condition and indeed it has had some engine work recently which we’ll go into more detail below. With a company needing the car to drive well on a moment’s notice then this car clearly didn’t disappoint.
History Highlights
The Jag has its V5c showing 4 previous keepers as well as a Jaguar Heritage certificate received with this seller after purchase in 2013. It also has the operating, maintenance and service handbook as well as a maintenance chart.
It does mention on the heritage certificate that the original body colour was ‘Mist’ which is a grey colour, but the service records show the car to be red back as far as 1992. So, either the car’s colour was changed to what looks to be Carmen Red, before ‘92 or there is a mistake in the heritage certificate. There is a copy of the original service pamphlet which has Grey crossed out and re-written as red under body colour.
Anyway, onto the history highlights and the car has MOT certificates regularly from 2013 as previous mentioned.
