Auction description:
Lot number 44
Sale Price Not Sold
Make & Model Jaguar Mk II 2.4 Saloon
Registration 867 JGH
Year 1961
Colour Green
Chassis No. 107140DN
Engine No. BG96118
Documents V5C; seven old MOTs
This superb 1961 example was originally delivered to AC Thomson in Aberdeen according to its Heritage Certificate. Its early history remains a mystery, the car surfacing in 2005 when it was offered for sale by Old School Garage for £25,000 with a genuine 20,800 miles on the clock. The advertisement included reference to a full Jaguar Main Agent and Jaguar Specialist history, documentation which has sadly got lost in the intervening years.
The Suede Green leather is original, with the driver's squab showing wear commensurate with its age. The rest of the interior is in superb condition, still with the original carpets and headlining. The current owner can see no sign of any welding or restoration over the years, the body shell remaining in superb condition with rock-solid panel fit just as it would have left the factory. New rubber seals were fitted in 2009, although the paintwork is believed to be the factory original with just a few minor areas which have been attended to over the last 55 years.
Sold again through Cotswold-based Martin Chisolm Collectors Cars in 2009, it has remained well-cared for and little used since. Invoices on file show a brake overhaul by Greenings Garage in Alderton which cost £700 and a further recent service bill for £421 has kept the car up to scratch. Seven old MOTs show how the mileage has accumulated to the indicated 24,500 miles since being sold by Old School Garage.
This fine low-mileage MkII is undoubtedly one of the finest examples we have had the pleasure to offer. A potential concours contender, it has clearly been loved for a very long time indeed and looks like an interesting and rewarding place to invest that pension pot which is just sitting there doing nothing!
