This 1962 Jaguar Mk II was built in December 1961 and dispatched to the United States, and the seller purchased the car around 1999 and oversaw a refurbishment that was conducted by Paladin Autoworks Ltd of Bellevue, Washington, and was completed in 2005. The 3.8-liter inline-six has been rebuilt and is linked to a Getrag five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The vehicle has been repainted in metallic green over tan leather upholstery. A number of components sourced from Vicarage Ltd include the Getrag transmission as well as the rear suspension, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, front sway bar, aluminum radiator, power door locks, alarm, and the windshield-wiper mechanicals. Other modifications include FAST electronic ignition, an alternator, fiberglass heat shields, Wilwood front disc brakes, Spax shocks, Dayton 15″ wire wheels, Cibie driving lamps, a Derrington-style steering wheel, a Kenwood stereo, a power antenna, an updated heater, and green carpeting. This modified Mk II is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, records from current ownership, Jaguar books, spare parts, a car cover, and a Washington title in the seller’s name that lists the car’s model year as 1963.
Finished from the factory in Opalescent Silver Grey, the car was repainted in a custom shade of BMW Oxford Metallic Green with Blue Pearl, the seller tells us. Exterior equipment includes a Leaper hood ornament, a badge bar, Cibie driving lights, fender-mounted side mirrors, a pop-up cowl vent, Coombs-style narrow rear-wheel spats, and chrome wraparound bumpers with overriders as well as a chrome grille, window surrounds, trim, and dual exhaust outlets. A windshield-wiper assembly from Vicarage has been installed, the rear fascia panel has been replaced, and the chrome parts were replated. A list of smaller parts that have been replaced under current ownership is provided in the photo gallery below.
Chrome-finished 15″ Dayton stainless-steel wire wheels are mounted with 185-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. Vicarage-supplied rack-and-pinion power steering has been adapted along with a Vicarage heavy-duty front sway bar. The front suspension also has been updated with replacement springs, ball joints, tie rods, bushings, and shocks. A Vicarage rear-suspension kit is fitted, and the car has Spax adjustable front and rear shocks. Wilwood front disc brakes are utilized, as are stainless-steel rear brake cylinders and brake lines. The front axle and wheel bearings have been replaced as well.
The cockpit features front bucket seats and a rear bench that have been reupholstered in tan leather, which is complemented by replacement green carpeting and satin-finished custom wood trim. The front seats recline, interior chrome parts have been replated, Vicarage power door locks and an alarm have been installed, and sound-deadening material has been added. Among the parts that were replaced are the seat foams, door panels, headliner, sun visors, center console, instrument-panel switches, lights, body grommets, rubber seals, windlace, and “furflex” seals. Other interior equipment includes a Kenwood eXcelon CD stereo, MB Quart component front speakers, a power antenna, three-point front seatbelts, rear lap belts, a heater, and stainless-steel doorsill trim. The seller notes that the clock works intermittently, the passenger-side rear door’s seal needs reinstallation, and the furflex in the front footwells exhibits wear.
The Derrington-style wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and centrally positioned auxiliary gauges displaying water temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 48k miles, approximately 6k of which were added under current ownership. The gauges were refurbished by Nisonger Instruments during the refurbishment, with the tachometer being updated to accept the signal input from the electronic ignition.
The 3.8-liter XK inline-six was rebuilt by Autosport Seattle of Seattle, Washington, in 2000 with work that involved honing the engine block, regrinding the crankshaft, and replacing the camshaft, pistons, pushrods, valves, and timing chain. Other equipment includes:
Rebuilt dual SU carburetors
Electric fuel pump
Nickel-plated fuel lines
Nickel-plated oil lines
Fuel Air Spark Technology XR700 electronic ignition
Replacement wiring harnesses
Alternator conversion
Rebuilt starter
Vicarage aluminum radiator
Stainless-steel heater pipes
Updated heater core and motor assembly
Jet-Hot exhaust headers
Double S stainless-steel exhaust system and bracket assembly
Fiberglass heat shields
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a Vicarage-sourced Getrag five-speed manual transmission and a rebuilt limited-slip differential. The clutch cylinders have been replaced and the flywheel remachined. The seller states that the chassis has been bead-blasted and rustproofing material has been applied to the car. Fluid leaks are noted.
A list of more than 250 parts that were replaced under current ownership is viewable in the gallery on a seller-provided nine-page document that also lists the vehicle’s modifications.
Jaguar-focused books that are included in the sale are shown above, and accompanying spare parts are pictured in the gallery.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate shows that the car was manufactured on December 21, 1961, and dispatched to New York on January 9, 1962.
The car’s chassis number is P219844DN, whereas the Washington title cites that sequence but with a “J63” prefix. The title also lists the vehicle’s model year as 1963.
