Car to be at auction 3/19
www.historics.co.uk/buying/auctions/2019-03-02/cars/ref-5-1967-jaguar-420-saloon ...

Auction description:
1967 Jaguar 420 Saloon
Registration HKV 208E
Chassis Number P1F26127BW
Engine Number 7F3811-B
Estimate No Reserve
Offered without reserve
Excellent headlining
Offered with two front donor wings

This example of the Jaguar 420 Saloon is a genuine barn find and will certainly need some work prior to it once again gliding through the lanes, having been stood in a barn (yes, genuinely) for the past ten years. Beneath the dust, the coachwork is finished in dark blue and has a contrasting red leather interior. However, we are assured that this 420 will arrive at the sale able to start and run. The 4.2 litre Jaguar engine is mated to the later and stronger automatic gearbox. Importantly, the red leather interior and especially, the often sagging headlining are serviceable, the headlining appearing in very good order. The 420 had many improved features over the S-Type, these include, a more efficient cross-flow radiator, duel-line braking system, larger 2" HD8 carburettors, anti squeal brakes, a viscous coupled engine fan, negative earthed electrical system, a pre-engaged starter motor and an alternator rather than the less efficient dynamo. A major advantage is that it also includes two replacement front wings, famously unavailable these days and, we are informed, in very usable condition. Requiring some restoration, this genuine righthand drive Jaguar is currently UK registered with a V5C registration document present. The registration document does record that the Jaguar has been previously registered overseas, first registered in the UK on 18thSeptember 1998, declared manufactured during 1967 and has a Historic Vehicle status. Offered without reserve, this 420 is expected to find an enthusiastic new owner who will once again enjoy the grace, space and pace that these Jaguars are so capable of delivering.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
