This 1967 Jaguar 420 is believed to have spent time in California, Nevada, and Iowa before being acquired by the seller in 2017 and relocated to Connecticut. Subsequent work has involved retrofitting a four-speed manual transmission, installing a power rack-and-pinion steering setup, rebuilding the front suspension, and overhauling the disc brakes. Refinished in red, the car is powered by a 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six that breathes through dual SU carburetors. Inside, black leather–trimmed seats are accompanied by walnut-veneer trim as well as a heater. Further details include 15″ wire-spoke wheels, Laycock de Normanville overdrive, and a PerTronix ignition. This 420 is now offered in Connecticut with Connecticut registration in the seller’s name.
The car is said to have been previously finished in dark gray before being repainted red under previous ownership. Exterior details include quad headlights, vent windows, and a fender-mounted antenna along with a chrome grille, driver-side mirror, door handles, window surrounds, and wraparound bumpers with overriders. The seller notes rust on the left-front fender along with bubbling on the doors.
The 15″ wire-spoke wheels are secured by two-ear knock-offs mounted with 205/70 Michelin Defender tires, while braking is handled by power-assisted discs featuring inboard rotors at the rear axle. The factory cam-and-roller steering system was replaced with a power rack-and-pinion setup under current ownership. Additional work by the seller is said to have involved rebuilding the front suspension as well as overhauling the brakes.
The cabin houses split front seats and a rear bench with a folding central armrest upholstered in black leather. Walnut-veneer trim accents the dash as well as the window surrounds, and interior appointments include a Smiths analog clock as well as a heater, a lockable glovebox, and three-point front seatbelts. Work under current ownership has reportedly involved replacing the headliner as well as re-trimming the door panels. A radio is installed, though it does not work.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a bright semi-circular horn ring. Smiths instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature set alongside a Lucas ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 26k miles, approximately 15k of which were added under current ownership. The odometer is believed to have rolled over, and the horn is not working.
The 4.2-liter XK DOHC inline-six was factory equipped with dual SU carburetors and was rated at 245 horsepower and 282 lb-ft of torque when new. The seller notes that the cylinder head has been replaced and that a PerTronix ignition is installed. Recent work is noted to have involved changing the oil as well as replacing the air filter and spark plugs.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a retrofitted four-speed manual transmission with Laycock de Normanville overdrive.
The vehicle is being sold on its Connecticut registration, which serves as the ownership document in Connecticut. The registration certificate lists “Antique” under the Registered Usage section.
