This 1948 Jaguar Mark IV was built on August 14, 1948 and is reportedly one of just 376 left-hand drive Drophead Coupes produced. The car spent time in Georgia and Oregon before coming to North Carolina in 2004. A refurbishment was performed in the mid-1990s, and work is said to have included a repaint in the current color scheme along with rebuilds of the original 3.5L inline-six and 4-speed manual transmission. This Mark IV has won several awards at local British car shows and is being offered by the selling dealer on behalf of the late owner’s family with records beginning in 1990, a full toolkit, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, and a clean North Carolina title.

Originally finished in black, the car was repainted its current two-tone cream color in 1994. Some minor finish flaws and stress cracks are noted, and the passenger’s door has a slight sag per the seller. The car is equipped with a pair of trafficators and running lamps mounted on the front bumper, while the reflectors above the fenders are said to have been removed.

Pigskin leather seats are joined by a wood dash and a stock 4-spoke steering wheel. Instrumentation includes a tachometer with a 4,500 rpm redline, a 120-mph speedometer, and a 5-digit odometer that indicates just under 62k miles. The gas gauge does not work properly, according to the seller.

The 3.5L inline-six and 4-speed manual transmission were rebuilt in 1993 at just under 60k miles as detailed by the receipt provided in the gallery. The car was reportedly serviced by the late owner, and compression is said to fall between 130 and 135psi across all six cylinders.

Engine stamping #SL3148 seen above matches the Heritage Trust Certificate pictured below. The chassis plate lists body number “B1170,” while the body tag and Heritage Trust Certificate show body number “C1170, ” both of which can be seen in the gallery.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
