Car was at auction in '06

Auction description:
Purchased in Mittagong by the current owner in 1975, with an indicated 85,000 miles clock, this Jaguar Mark 2 became the family car for the next seven years and was regularly maintained. Following the purchase of a new XJ6 in 1983, the Mark 2 went into semi-retirement and was kept on club plates until a proper restoration commenced in 2002. The car was repainted, the interior trim and woodwork renewed while some subtle upgrades were carried out, including nicely integrated air conditioning, better heater and inertia front seat belts. Mechanically, the engine was rebuilt with new pistons, bearings and chains, the heads ported, the gearbox and diff overhauled, the steering box rebuilt and all brake hoses and body rubbers replaced. A number of modifications were done with a view to making the Jaguar perform better, including 2-inch carburettors, stainless steel exhaust, 6-inch rims, an alternator and towbar. Having enjoyed just the one owner for the past 31 years, this immaculate and very desirable Mark 2 with manual gearbox is now reluctantly offered for sale and presents a rare opportunity for the discerning Jaguar collector to acquire one of the best examples of this coveted cat. The Jaguar is currently registered on club plates and will be sold unregistered with a NSW Blue Slip supplied after sale.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
