Sellers description:
1965 4.2 LITRE MKX SEDAN
(Numbers Marching / Jag Heritage Trust Registered)
The restoration work on this vintage Jaguar has been done with only the best materials and proper techniques. Unfortunately my disabled back condition means that I can not complete this restoration. The new owner must be motivated and have the resources to finish this Jaguar so it can be shown and enjoyed. A Jaguar with this much work done deserves to be finished, not parked in my garage. I inherited this car from my father and subsequently began a maximum effort restoration.
All the back edges of every panel and door aperture and the engine bay are already painted to concours grade. While there are some patina, the mechanicals are more than complete. The typical mid door gap found on MKX's has been eliminated with surgical metal work. The panel gaps and fit are optimized, uniform, and better than original. (PS lower door lower right corner is 1/8" to 1/16th out of true, but easy to adjust) The entire body exterior has been hand blocked obsessively to concours grade. The closure and fit of the massive hood has been optimized. Attention to edge crispness of body architecture was executed during the body shaping stage. The paint is original match color PPG solvent based. The engine bay is PPG single stage. and the remainder PPG two stage/clear. I do have the PPG paint formula to insure paint color continuity. All the wood is hand restored to concours grade. The wood is all original and retains the book matching and extraordinary grain figuring that this car was born with. While you do have to install the SNG Barratt Master Interior Kit, the labor of stripping out the old interior is completed. The gages are operational and in excellent shape, I believe only three black bezel edges need a repaint in satin black. No body or monocoque rust or accident damage.
The tool kit is 100% as original and the case restored. The original trunk upholstery has been refinished. I believe the still sealed grey (original color leather) SNG Barratt Master Interior Kit includes some trunk items. The twin petrol tanks (rebuilt external fuel pumps and dash fitted tank selector switch are operational) have been internally cleaned and sealed. All panel gaps have been optimized using classic lead filling techniques where necessary. The fuel system has been serviced with StaBil. The completely rebuilt engine has perfect oil pressure and has yet to be fully broken in. The Borg Warner automatic transmission has been professionally rebuilt. The front and rear suspensions have been completely rebuilt including Girling adjustable front shocks. The mechanical systems have been either upgraded or optimized for reliability and proper performance. Until the onset of my back condition, this car was started and driven monthly. See the following details for descriptions of complete systems status and restoration. This is an original numbers matching Jaguar as the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate # 10728 indicates.
